The theme of "Hold" was inspired by the size limitations of the Challenge Tokushima Art Festival. In this event, each participant is given a wall space of 5 meters by 5 meters to display upon, and the piece can only extend from from the wall a maximum of 1 meter. At first S.A.Ramsay felt this was a restriction that needed to be worked around, but upon deeper consideration, it was realized that such limitations are actually inherent in nearly every aspect of human life. Essentially, the things that may in one way "limit" us, are also the things that define us. This includes such aspects as one's age, address, language, family, gender, job, ability, possessions, or emotions. The things that may sometimes hold us back are also the things we hold inside. Furthermore, without these things (if we were to cut free so to speak) we would begin to lose our identity, and our "shape" would be lost.

This installation piece fills the available space entirely (5m x 5m x 1m). It uses approximately 1.5km (1 mile) of twine, and hundreds of bi-lingual points of attachment (Japanese, English).
